Is it damage control time for Novell?

It looks like it is!

Ron Hovsepian, Novell’s Chief Executive Officer, wrote an open letter to the Free and Open Source Software Community in a desperate effort to minimize the damage caused by Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer’s comments last week indicating that Linux users owe something to Microsoft.

Microsoft responded Novell’s letter with a statement indicating that:

“Microsoft and Novell have agreed to disagree on whether certain open source offerings infringe Microsoft patents and whether certain Microsoft offerings infringe Novell patents. The agreement between our two companies puts in place a workable solution for customers for these issues, without requiring an agreement between our two companies on infringement.”

Now, we have to keep a close eye on how everything progresses.
